Black History Month Film Events Around The UK 2025
Oct 09, 2025
Your Guide To Power And Pride
This October, we have a great line-up of events around the UK celebrating Black History Month for the creative community.
This year’s theme for Black History Month is ‘Standing Firm in Power and Pride’, and what better way to engage with that pride than by celebrating black voices in storytelling.
In-person events are a great way to come together, engage with your community, experience powerful stories and network with like-minded creatives. This is an especially powerful experience for beginner creators breaking into the industry, as making connections is crucial, and these events for filmmakers can shape your own storytelling skills.
It is important to note that these events are not just for creatives of colour to attend, but every single person should understand the value of different voices, perspectives and experiences, particularly when it comes to storytelling.
Have a read through some of the different events taking place this October, find your favourites, get out there and meet other empowered creatives, and then tell us all about it over on our social channels @filmmakingplanner. If you have any filmmaking events coming up this year that you’d like to share, then we’d love to hear about them and give them a shoutout, because the more we know, the more we can grow.
TOP TIP:
Not sure what to say when networking with other filmmakers?
Fill out your ‘Film Identity’, ‘Logline’, and ‘Synopsis’ pages to help create your film summary ready to share with others. These will give you talking points and opportunities for others to understand you as a creator, and areas that they can relate to and start a conversation from.
Bring along your Filmmaking Planner to fill in your ‘Networking’ page to get the most out of in-person events. These pages will help you structure your conversations with a purpose and make sure you hit your key points, so you don’t regret missing out the most important parts after you’ve gone home!

Antwone Fisher is a raw, deeply human story about rage, rejection, and the long road to healing. Based on a true story, it follows a young Navy man forced to confront a childhood marked by abandonment and abuse — and the inner strength he finds through therapy, truth, and self-discovery.
Directed by Denzel Washington and featuring a powerful breakout performance from Derek Luke, this film doesn’t just tell a story — it holds a mirror to generational trauma, emotional survival, and what it means to finally be seen.
